10 QUESTIONS WITH SUPER FAN

Here is a new interview with Patrick Foster. He has designed logos for Bluewater since the beginning. My personal favorites are The Blackbeard Legacy and Gearz! I think that logos are so important to the look of the books.

QUESTION1:
SUPER FAN: SO, HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED DOING LOGOS?
PATRICK: I've been a commercial graphic designer for 12 years now, doing regular business logos among other things. Doing comic logos came about when I pitched Darren on my lettering work. i can't support a full book, my schedule's a wreck, but he asked me to do logos for him and I've been at it ever since.

QUESTION 2:
SUPER FAN:HOW DO YOU COME UP WITH IDEAS?
PATRICK: I try to consider what the book is about, and who it needs to appeal to. A manga Tenth Muse logo, for instance, would need to look very different from a dark, gritty Tenth Muse story for older readers.

QUESTION 3:
SUPER FAN: WHAT DID YOU DO FOR EARTH DAY 2008?
PATRICK: Worked, sadly enough. I didn't drive anywhere, tho, so I guess that might help.

QUESTION 4:
SUPER FAN:WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE SMELL?
PATRICK: Fresh ground coffee. Which is weird, cause I can't stand drinking coffee.

QUESTION 5:
SUPER FAN: WHAT OTHER LOGOS HAVE YOU CAME UP WITH?
PATRICK: More than I can count for Darren, and about 30-40 commercial logos for various business that are still in business out there somewhere.

QUESTION 6:
SUPER FAN:DO YOU LIKE COMIC BOOKS?
PATRICK: ALmost all my life. I'm trying to stick with them, but graphic novel collections are slowly creeping in on my buying.

QUESTION 7:
SUPER FAN: HILARY OR OBAMA?
PATRICK: Obama. GREAT logo.

QUESTION 8:
SUPER FAN: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE COMIC BOOK AND CHARACTER?
PATRICK: Favorite book? Eesh. Right now, Jack Staff, by Paul Grist, just a terrific, fun read. All time? The Jack Knight Starman, I think.

QUESTION 9:
SUPER FAN: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE COLOR?
PATRICK: Green.

PATRICK: iMac, always.
