RAY
HARRYHAUSEN AND BLUEWATER MAKE A SPLASH IN ‘07
Creative studio joins with
legendary filmmaker for independent publishing
BlueWater Productions, the company behind
such smash hits as the 10th MUSE, VSS, and THE LEGEND OF ISIS,
is moving from production studio to publisher beginning in May 2007, in conjunction
with legendary mythological filmmaker, Ray Harryhausen -- the genius behind
some of the greatest movie magic of all-time!
The
mantra of BlueWater will be: “solid comics that are on time,” said BlueWater
Productions president and managing editor, Darren G. Davis.
“We have
been working towards self publishing for a while and we are way ahead on
our books. I want people to feel confident that
our titles will be released when they were solicited.”
In addition to Harryhausen, BlueWater will be
bringing some giant talent to the mix; such as Randy Green (Witchblade),
Billy Tucci (Heroes for Hire), Tone Rodriguez (Conan), Randy Queen (Darkchylde),
Nadir Balan (VSS), Ryan Scott Ottney
(Legend of Isis), David McIntee
(Dr Who), William O'Neill (Voilent Massiahs), Paul Storrie (Justice League
Adventures), and Matt Wieman (Mainstay Studio).
Along with these time-tested
talents, BlueWater is also introducing an array of new talent like Jeffery
Cruz (Sinbad), Dawid Strauss (Legend of Isis), Alex Garcia (20 Million Miles
More), Rantz (The Muse), Chad Rebmann (Judo Girl), Max Landis & Matt
Frank (Back to Mysterious Island), Scott Davis (Orion the Hunter), Mike Roberts
(Sinbad), and Dex (Judo Girl) -- just to name more than a few!
Each RAY HARRYHAUSEN PRESENTS comic will feature
five pages of original artwork from Harryhausen's collection, thanks to a
partnership with Every Picture Tells a Story: the Santa Monica-based gallery
that sells Harryhausen’s works.
"Ray Harryhausen is one of
the reasons I create comics,” Davis said. “’CLASH OF THE TITANS' made a priceless
impression on my career, and I'm honored to work with Ray. He inspired and
motivated me to take ‘LEGENDS' into different media. These books are a chance
to do a real a real collaborative effort with Ray, and not just another licensing
gimmick.”
"As an artist, I've always
enjoyed exploring new and interesting areas," said Harryhausen. "Although
many of my feature films, beginning with 'THE 7TH VOYAGE OF SINBAD,' were
adapted into the comic book format, I have never been directly involved with
that particular art form -- until now. I am very happy to be working with
BlueWater Productions, who have already done wonderful work with their '10TH
MUSE' and ' ISIS
' comic books, and look forward
to seeing these characters in new and exciting adventures."
BlueWater Art Director Nadir
Balan is equally excited to work with Harryhausen.
"Ray Harryhausen's films
have a timeless appeal that extends beyond special effects and monsters.
My goal is to capture the essence and charm of his films and adapt them to
action-packed comics so both new readers and existing fans can catch up on
the ongoing adventures. I'm thrilled to be part of the team dreaming up new
futures for these great characters,” Balan said.
Among Harryhausen’s involvement
with BlueWater Productions is a series of books titled, RAY HARRYHAUSEN PRESENTS,
featuring such classics as Wrath of the Titans, 20 Million Miles More, Sinbad
Rouge of Mars, Jason and the Argonauts: Kingdom of Hades, Back to Mysterious
Island, The Elementals … and Harryhausen’s all-new rendition of a classic
BlueWater heroine, THE 10TH MUSE!
Other books coming soon
to BlueWater Productions include Blackbeard Legacy, Insane Jane, and Gearz;
as well as more from the RAY HARRYHAUSEN PRESENTS line, such as Jason and
the Argonauts: Kingdom of Hades, Back to
Mysterious
Island, and The Elementals.
In addition to all of this,
BlueWater is also developing several projects and graphic novels with Atomic
Pop Art.
“This new arrangement will
allow Atomic Pop Art to bring back some of our best work from our past, while
we devote more of our time and efforts to developing new stories to have them
ready for readers on time each month,” said BlueWater Productions president
and managing editor, Darren G. Davis. “We’re very pleased that Atomic Pop
Art will be joining us in this project.”
Along with Atomic Pop Art,
BlueWater will also produce projects with AngelGate and Arcana Studios.
